ATAI & NCAD Letterpress Workshop

ATAI & NCAD Letterpress Workshop

Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th of April 2017

Are you looking to re- engage in an artistic practice or to learn a new skill?

This two-evening course run in collaboration with the Art Teachers Association of Ireland (ATAI) and the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) will cover the basic techniques of letterpress printing involved in graphic design: typesetting with metal and wood type, locking up for print and registration. The course will provide an excellent overview of the processes and materials involved in letterpress printing in a relaxed group work setting. This course offers a fantastic opportunity to gain access to Distillers Press at NCAD, the only working letterpress facility in third level education in Ireland. Those with previous experience in graphic design/ typography/print may find the course particularly interesting but previous knowledge is not required.

The workshop will be co-facilitated by Victoria Maher, 4th year Design & Education student and Mary Plunkett, NCAD Facilitator and technician. As part of her degree project Victoria is researching art teacher re-engagement through CPD, this workshop aims to engage teachers within an artistic practice. Participants will be asked to fill out a survey and take part in a brief interview at the beginning and end of the two-evening workshop.

The workshop takes place from 6:30pm-9pm, Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th of April, in Distillers Press, 1st Floor of the Design building in NCAD. Paper and ink will be provided. There is no fee for this workshop, places are limited to 10 and must be booked by email to Aoife Keogh http://atai.vice.president@gmail.com
